This will be the third meeting between Witkoff and Putin.
Trump may move to additional sanctions if a ceasefire is not reached by the end of the month, Axios claims.
US President Donald Trump’s representative Steve Witkoff has traveled to Russia where he is to meet with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin on Friday, April 11. This was reported by Axios, citing its sources and FlightRadar data.
The media notes that this will be the third meeting between Witkoff and Putin. In addition, Witkoff received Putin’s special envoy Kirill Dmitriev in Washington that week.
Axios notes that Trump insists on a ceasefire in the war between Russia and Ukraine and is disappointed that the talks have not made much progress.
The publication notes that if a truce is not reached by the end of the month, Trump may move to additional sanctions against Russia either through the executive branch or by asking Congress to pass new sanctions legislation.
